Ireland: Running the Back Roads

No one visits Ireland in the winter time, let alone February. This was an unplanned and last minute trip to be with family in Ireland. Tickets were literally purchased within a couple of hours after finding out everyone else was going home. When you have the opportunity to be with family, the ones you love, you take it. Life is too short. Not only that, but it has been 18 years since my sister and I were in Ireland at the same time. It was just as important to me that she goes as well. During my time here so far I have spent it catching up with cousins I have not seen in ages and going for runs in the countryside. Which despite the freezing cold, has been quite calming. It is so peaceful and beautiful during the morning. The sun only beginning to rise at 8 o’clock and for the first few mornings the frost did not begin to melt until nearly noon. Waving to a couple people out walking their dog and stopping to observe the livestock as I make my way down the narrow back roads. I knew it would be my way of finding peace while here.

Always choose the back roads.

  • Oh, it is awesome that you and your sister and your family were finally reunited after 18 years! Ireland, though frozen, seems like a beautiful place to go. With love,
    Vera
