My First Half Marathon Race

I ran my first half marathon at the See Jane Run event in Alameda this past weekend. I started training for the half marathon during the last week of college at the end of March. This was a goal I set because I wanted to physically challenge myself. In high school I ran cross country and track. We used to run 40 or more miles a week, which included running 12 miles on Montara mountain in Pacifica nearly every Saturday. I was in the best physical shape of my life (so far) during that time. Back then running 13.1 miles would be a breeze. It’s time to get back to a routine and challenge myself. Working full-time and attending college made me put running and going to the gym on the back burner for a while. As soon as school was coming to an end, I set my sights on a new goal. It reminded me that committing to running a half marathon would take a lot of dedication. I trained most days on my own, but on the day of the race it was nice running with my friend Audra. We set a goal completion time and beat it. I also had a great support team. Mike biked along the route the entire way, and my mom cheered me on at the finish. It was a very hot morning, but a beautiful run along the bay.
